KNOTS
Kaleena Cote

The clasp was strong and sturdy
And it held the strand as one
But over time things weaken
And one day it came undone
And the chain got all knotted
Into bends and twists so tight
So she tossed the chain aside
It just wasn't worth a fight
And it sat there in a box
Tarnishing, collecting dust
And soon it was forgotten
That sterling object of lust
But that necklace was special
Symbolic in lots of ways
So one day she picked it up
And then picked at it for days
First it was impossible
And often she threw it down
But soon the knots got looser
And a grin dissolved her frown
And suddenly it fell slack
And the mess just disappeared
Swaying like a pendulum
The necklace again revered
So what if it was kinked some
And maybe it lost its flair
It still had lots of meaning
And she put it on to wear
That moment she decided
That she'd always conquer strife--
Always try to untangle
All the knotted things in life
